2020 Annual Conference of The Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland Postponed

2020 Annual Conference of The Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland Postponed

On Monday 16th March 2020, the Executive Committee and Trustees of The Society made the difficult decision to postpone our annual conference, which was scheduled to take place in Salthill, Galway Bay, Ireland, from 4th to 8th May 2020, in light of public health concerns around COVID-19.

The Annual Conference of The Society will now take place at the same venue location, The Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, Galway, Ireland, from Monday 3rd to 7th Friday 2021.

What if I’ve already registered for this year’s Conference in May 2020?
The Treasurer of the Society can provide a full refund of the Conference Fees to all registered delegates who have paid their Registration Fee and/or Accommodation Fee for the 2020 Conference. However, delegates also have the option of carrying forward their Registration Fee and Accommodation Fee towards the cost of the Conference in May 2021.

For those who wish a refund, you will be refunded in full to the card/account that was originally used to pay. If you have paid by cheque and the cheque has been processed, you will be reimbursed by cheque. If your cheque has not yet been banked with the Society’s bank, the cheque will not be presented and you will be informed by the Administrative Secretary.

For any refunds or enquiries about fees already paid, and any questions relating to the postponement of the conference, please email our Administrative Secretary, Kate Dunn, kate.dunn@gallowaydiocese.org.uk

Is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) also postponed?
The AGM, scheduled for Thursday 7th May 2020 as part of the Conference, is also postponed. The Society has an obligation to hold a General Meeting in each calendar year. There is no obligation to hold our General Meeting at an Annual Conference. To fulfil this obligation, an alternative date and venue for the 2020 AGM will be arranged and notice given to Members. In finalising these alternative arrangements, we will seek to make the AGM accessible to as many Members as possible. However, in light of public health concerns around COVID-19, Members should know that it may not be possible nor prudent for a General Meeting to take place this calendar year.

What if I've already booked travel?
Unfortunately, the Society is unable to reimburse any travel costs incurred by delegates. The Administrative Secretary will be in contact with Speakers who have incurred travel costs.

Does The Society still plan an Annual Conference in Rome (scheduled to take place in May 2021)?
As we have moved this year’s Conference forward to May 2021, we are currently working through what our options are to hold the Annual Conference in Rome in May 2022. Once we have dates and a venue for the 2022 Conference we will inform our Members.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either me, jamesjohnokane@hotmail.co.uk, or our Administrative Secretary, Kate Dunn, kate.dunn@gallowaydiocese.org.uk

In the meantime, we pray for protection during this time of crisis and uncertainty.

Yours sincerely,

Rev James O’Kane
General Secretary
